The cooling system
There were several issues that needed to be addressed to fit the new V-8 into the car. Since we were going to use a Moroso remote electric water pump we needed a spot to mount it. The logical place was to put it in the stock battery location. The battery mounting tray was cut away, a mounting bracket fabricated for the pump, a hole in the fender wall was enlarged and then the pump was installed.
The coolant hose for the return line from the aluminum performance rad (from Performance Rad) was routed through the fender well between the outer skin and the fender liner to the stock coolant tube. The outflow line from the engine utilized a coolant tube from a parts car and was mounted across the firewall, running downhill, behind the heat shield fabric and then run into the stock coolant pipe. Two flanges were fabricated with AR fittings welded to them to mount the inflow lines (stainless steel braided) to the engine from the pump. All lines and clamps are easily accessible.
As with the stock version, the cooling system should be filled from the highest point in the system, in this case from the top of the engine so we installed a Moroso tall neck filler onto the intake manifold. Once everything had been routed all new hoses and clamps were used.
